Horus Heresy Limited Edition series

Hey guys, i hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. I finished reading the second of the two latest limited edition Horus Heresy novellas on Saturday and realized that a lot of people probably haven't had a chance to check these out. These are some really nice releases for fans of the lore and the Heresy Saga in general and have a lot of neat little extras. More info and pictures follow....

There have been a total of four limited novellas related to the Horus Heresy released as books since the series started. Strangely two have been Salamanders related, which made me first want to buy them. Promethean sun was first, followed by Aurelian - one that i did not pick up as limited, but which i have now read on its regular release launch - and then Scorched Earth and Tallarn: Executioner. Each story tells a very different tale and are set through various times of the Heresy. Promethean Sun is set during the close of the great crusade and follows Vulkan as he and two other of his brother primarchs attempt to bring an eldar-ruled human world into compliance. Aurelian follows the story of Lorgar and him being shown the possibilities of the future by Chaos and his eventual decision to follow the eightfold path. Scorched Earth takes place in the aftermath of the Isstvan V dropsite massacre and follows two surviving Salamanders as they struggle to survive and attempt to find their missing Primarch across the now hellish surface of the planet whilst being hunted by the mad dogs left behind by each Traitor legion to mop up the remaining survivors. Tallarn: Executioner is the first opening engagements of the Battle of Tallarn and follows a tank squadron and their perspective of the engagements beginning.

All the limited copies come signed by the author and numbered, along with having embellished hardback covers under the dust sleeves. The two salamanders ones have a scaled texture to them - one red, the other green - while the Tallarn one has the blueprint of a tank across it. Each limited copy also comes with some great artwork and pictures in the middle of the book, which are really well done and add a nice finish to them. I have liked all of these stories quite a lot after reading them and would definitely recommend them for anyone who likes the lore. It looks like they are probably going to be released as a standard edition many months after the limited runs have been made, so if you have missed them, you should be able to pick them up later. Aurelian and Scorched Earth are probably my favorite two so far but they all offer interesting looks at different aspects of the backstory and setting of the Heresy.

This is the artwork on the inside of the Scorched Earth book. These are sketches of some of the Isstvan V survivor characters in the story. thought these were pretty cool as an addition to the book. The two on the left are the Salamanders characters, while the others are Iron Hands.

These two are from the pictures feature in the Tallarn: Executioner book. I liked these ones a lot. The one on the left give a breakdown of some of the tank squadrons that participate in the first few battles of Tallarn, while the other is a little extra information on a specific tank crew and their vehicle.

This is pretty much all i have on them that i figure would be worth a share. I don't want to spoil the stories for people but needless to say they are all enjoyable reads and are really nicely made as collectors pieces also for those who are into this series. Definitely worth picking up if you like Black Library's work.
