Some quick news everyone! Last Friday the Developers of the upcoming 40k MMO; Eternal Crusade, announced that its first community faction vote will go live this Wednesday. For any who don't know, this is the first of 4 community votes for founders to choose which additional racial sub-faction can be added to the game. Eldar are first up on this, with the choices being Craftworlds Mymeara, Altansar, and Yme Loc. All have pretty unique looks and very interesting backgrounds. If you need more info, the latest live stream contains all the info on these choices. (here's the link to that video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-Ccs2bd38g ) If you are excited to play as your favorite space elfs but have yet to become a founder, then you are encouraged to do so now so that you can have active participation in choosing what goes into the game for this faction. Signing up is quick and easy and is as simple as going to eternalcrusade.com, creating an account, and buying any one of the founder packs available, but hurry, the voting begins on Wednesday. Hope to see you there. More info on the craftworlds can be found below. :)

Chaos for so many millennia?

History
Altansar was one of the many Craftworlds surviving the Fall of the Eldar race. It rode out the psychic shock waves that destroyed the Eldar empire but was subsequently caught in the gravity well of the Eye of Terror. Although the Eldar of Altansar struggled valiantly against the encroachment of Chaos,
their doom was inevitable, and within five hundred years of the Fall,
their Craftworld was swallowed into the warp. Among the entirety of
Altansar's population, only the Phoenix Lord Maugan Ra escaped the Craftworld's consumption by Chaos.[1a][3b]
Ten thousand years later (in M41), Abaddon the Despoiler emerged from the insane reality of the Eye of Terror, at the head of the Thirteenth Black Crusade.
The Chaos Legions' intrusion into reality left a rift which bridged the
material universe and the universe of the warp. Through this opening
Maugan Ra counter-invaded the Eye to undertake a quest in search of the
remains of his people. Leaving a silvered trail of soulfire behind him,
Maugan Ra eventually found the remains of his Craftworld. He found that
the Eldar of Altansar had survived ten thousand years within the Eye.
Maugan Ra guided the remnants of his Craftworld out of the Eye and
against Abaddon's forces to deny him ultimate victory. However, there
was no welcome nor celebration from the other Craftworlds; Altansar is
regarded with open suspicion and hostility.[1a][3b]
Its inhabitants are known to speak in whispers and to never remove
their helmets, this which gives credence to the suspicions of other

During the 13th Black Crusade, Maugan Ra returned to the area to find a great rend in the fabric of space, caused by the emergence of the Chaos
fleet. It was through this that he managed to finally free his home
Craftworld from the Eye and proceeded to use his warriors to help fight
in the Black Crusade itself.[1a] Currently Altansar is somewhere close to Terra, although how it has managed to get there without Imperial retaliation is unknown.[Needs Citation]

History
Mymeara was originally a normal world that had escaped the Fall of the Eldar
as its location was on the extreme limits of the Eldar empire and the
corrupting influence of pleasure cults had barely reached them. However
in the end, the Mymearans descended into the depravity and madness of
their race. The wisest of the Craftworld's elders had foreseen this fate
and spent the last decades constructing a mighty Craftworld.
The world-ship was completed as the world began to descend into
wholesale bloodshed and slaughter, and only half of Mymeara's original
population was on board when the Craftworld set sail. Lost in their
grief for the death of their race and believing themselves alone in the
galaxy, the Craftworld drifted through the stars for many years.[1]
However their assumptions were soon proven wrong and the Craftworld had to fight for its very survival against Orks. Hundreds of thousands of Mymearans died in these wars, and the only hope for Mymeara during this time came from Irillyth, the Phoenix Lord of the Shadow Spectres.
Through his wisdom the warriors of Mymeara learned how to combine the
aspects of stealth, speed, and firepower to decimate their foes and soon
set about clearing a safe path through the galaxy for their
world-vessel.[1]
Irillyth's presence upon the Craftworld however was short, and the Phoenix Lord left to fight the fledgling Imperium
when he was certain Mymeara had been spared destruction. Mymeara then
found a region of space that had not yet been infested by other races,
and using their technology hid themselves away. There, they have
remained for centuries.[1]

The Doom of Mymeara
Sometime in M41, Mymeara managed to locate Irillyth once more, this time upon the Human Ice World of Betalis III. Irillyth's armour, which held his spirit, was intact. Mymeara would enter into an alliance with Craftworld Alaitoc as well as Eldar Corsairs to recover their beloved Phoenix Lord's armour before it was discovered by human miners. In the ensuing Betalis Campaign, the Eldar alliance proved successful in recovering Irillyth.[1]
Some interesting news in the realms of video games today. A newly announced 40k video game title has been announce. Dark Nexus Arena is a MOBA game along similar lines to games juggernaut; League of Legends, and is set in a Dark Eldar Arena of Death. The game is planned to be opened for Early Access in the 2nd quarter of 2015. Here is a link to the games website; https://www.darknexusarena.com/. There is a trailer video at the bottom of the main page which gives us a little sneak peak at the gameplay. Some more info below....

I am glad someone has finally thought of this idea, as it was actually something i was surprised we hadn't yet seen. With 40k's rich lore and background, there is literally hundreds of potential characters waiting to be created for a game like this, and they have the ability to be very diverse at the same time. If the guys over at Whitebox Interactive can do it right, this game could well end up being a big hit when it finally comes out. There will be at least 1 character for each race, that much we do know, but hopefully there will be more options for each race too. For the game to really excel it definitely needs more than one option per race.

There is currently a few packs up for founders. Each one offers a few things, with the bigger priced ones offering limited skins of different characters such as Darnath Lysander, Ghazghkhull, and Aun'Shi. I'm quite sure the game will feature even more as time goes on, but this is definitely one to give a try when its available, especially if u are a fan of 40k and MOBA games.

After looking on the web recently for some good GW alternative models for BFG and Epic 40k, I discovered something very interesting. Not only is there a plethora of 3rd party bitz and model manufacturers, but there is also some really interesting potential in the realms of 3D printing nowadays. Obviously I don't mean the infamous "Red Dreadnaught" above, I mean other models, specifically of smaller kinds. But after seeing the things available as i have lately during my internet search, there is definitely a growing professional community of talented 3D designers and modellers that can produce some truly great quality, and for a very reasonable price. More info and thoughts follow...

So I was originally searching for some terrain and models for Epic 40k, as these are extremely expensive to acquire via Ebay these days, and I wanted to see what was out there. After finding a really good selection at Onslaught Minis, I ordered some things and then started to look for some more specific stuff like 6mm scale terrain. This proved trickier but I did happen to stumble upon a picture and link that caught my eye. It was a 6mm scale bombed out building kit based on a Mechanicus factory. Needless to say this instantly caught my eye, so i clicked the link. After looking a bit closer at the image, i was curious what else the site had, so i did a few searches. Needless to say, i discovered what in my opinion is a treasure trove of possibilities. All of the content for sale is generated through various Digital Modelling applications, by an even more various number of people, and then put up for sale for others to buy if they decide they like it. Whats better is that the company that owns the site takes care of the molding and construction and prep of the model for the creator, so both parties can be assured that it is delivered at as high a quality as possible for the customer. (They ship the product to you too) Here's one example of stuff you might find that you would want.

Whats even better is that the models or things you want to buy can be produced in different material types, which of course can mean more savings for the more money-conscious hobbyists out there. This comes at the cost of a slight reduction in model quality and detail though as the cheaper materials can leave a grainy feel or just not easily produce really heavy fine details. I selected the Frosted Ultra Detail plastic type for my order as this is the best all around for strength and guarantees much better clarity on details. Pricing of each thing varies greatly depending on what you want to look for, and much is based on size, and materials needed to build it. but typically what i was looking at was less than $10 in most cases for the basic material, and around $15 to $20 for the frosted ultra detail stuff.

I really want to tell everyone all about the company that offers such an amazing choice of stuff, but due to the murky legal waters that the "Lawyer-Sharks" for the likes of GW swim in, I am going to abstain from it. This is a pain I think, but if it means its less likely to result in problems for these sellers and the distributing company then I am all for it. (Its all for discontinued stuff that GW stopped making, such as Epic and BFG like i said, but hey, this is GW we are talking about so I'd rather not risk it.) Anyone savvy enough will likely come across this site without much digging, it literally took me about 5 minutes before i stumbled on it, but once you find it you will know what i mean. ;)

(Imagine these painted up. The details would jump out even more)

With all of this I would likely to strongly clarify that I do not in ANY way condone piracy of company products. I am a strong believer that people should support the legitimate company that produces their favorite stuff and not doing so does harm the overall company. I am merely talking here in terms of anything that does not actually exist, or has long since been discontinued by them. This is mainly why BFG and Epic doesn't bother me, as those game systems are still pretty popular to a lot of people and they basically got the middle finger regarding their beloved respective games and they never deserved that. Tip of the hat to all those out there who are continuing to produce awesome stuff for these games and support them were possible.

To surmise, compare some of the pictures you see here to that awful dreadnaught at the top. You can clearly see that with different materials and the right designers, there is a booming industry for user generated stuff. One day in the not too distant future (just as star trek predicted - sort of) most people in the world will have greater access to a 3D replication printer that can quickly and effectively produce things for them. Much like technology has grown insanely fast since the dawn of the computer, I expect a similar - if not quite as huge - boom with this kind of thing. anyone can produce things for themselves, or to sell, and it can literally be a button click away. If someone figures a way out to use GW type plastics in printing, then things will get VERY busy, but in a good way. Imagine one day being able to download your Space Marines directly from Games Workshops website, and have them print out before you at home! Exciting prospect for sure.

Anyways, I hope this maybe opened up the imaginations of some of you to whats possible here in the future of our hobbies in general. You can even give it a try yourself by downloading a free design app and playing around. There's quite a few out there nowadays :)

Today, Forge World has put up the mighty Stormhammer Super-heavy tank kit for preorders. Here's a link to see much more pics of this behemoth; http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/STORMHAMMER.html. Its rules are featured in book 4 of the Horus Heresy campaign, but don't be surprised if you see an updated set for 40k games sometime not too far in the future. For the money, this is probably one of my favorite new super-heavy kits they have produced. If you are looking for a tank that is all about the firepower, then this is one to get. :)

Some troubling news from the makers of Eternal Crusade surfaced recently. For those who have yet to hear about the delay to Early Access, the article about it can be read here; https://www.eternalcrusade.com/news/398-State-Of-The-Crusade . Originally supposed to be released late last year, that deadline couldn't be met, but Founders didn't mind. It's all to make a better game after all. But now the deadline of Q1 2015 has also been reneged on, all the way till 'Autumn 2015" sometime. Normally I'm not troubled by delays with games as its normal, but here's why i find this slightly troubling...

For those of you who also have been keeping up with this project since it was first announced a few years ago, you likely understand my concern regarding recent changes at Behavior Interactive. The face of the development efforts, and the champion of transparency and community interaction at Behavior: Miguel Caron, is no longer with the company. While changes are inevitable during development cycles, this one is troubling, especially as very recently after this, the further delay to early access was announced - without even an email to founders about it - stating that it would be further delayed till late this year. To be fair, they did give Miguel a small sendoff during the last Twitch stream, while also introducing the new Senior Producer; Nathan Richardsson, but in my experience, most of the time, people are not let go freely and are happy in doing so, even if they are made to say as much.

I wasn't very familiar with him when it was initially announced, but while watching the feed, i began to see a lot of negative comments about the announcement, but I left my opinion open as i had yet to see any of his previous work. EVE is a popular game and i have personally had some fun with that in the past, but the other games; Defiance, World of Darkness, and Dust:514, have all been really poor showing, both in design and in execution and none other than EVE were what you could call a commercial success. This is not a good start to 2015 for Eternal Crusade. I have personally put over $150 into Eternal Crusade as a Founder, and have been patient for the past 3 years while they worked on the game. I didn't mind the first delay in 2014 as its totally reasonable to expect those to happen sometimes in this industry, so Spring 2015 was fine with me. It was only a few more months to wait after all. And now we get hit with this. Another delay, after a long period of relative silence from the company, with the only recent twitch basically announcing the ousting of Miguel and introducing Nathan.

With over 3 years of Dev time, and little more than some pretty and interesting, but relatively minor tech demos, we have yet to see any real playable setup yet. The last module shown last year was great, and is what we have been expecting to see. My question is this. If that was ready enough to be shown back then, why is it now suddenly not good enough for the early access we were originally promised? You say you want our feedback, but are then again prying it away from us, further shortening our window to give any real useful feedback regarding the game. 3 years is substantially more time than most other developers take to have something good to show, so why have we still not got anything? Its getting frustrating and, while i have fought the feeling and not been irritated about it till now, this new delay has definitely shook my confidence in Behaviors ability to deliver a good product in the end. Extended amounts of Dev time does not automatically equate to a good product.

If I don't start seeing better delivered content within the coming months for this - especially as they have now yet again delayed - I will definitely be scrutinizing things a lot more. Taking advantage of loyal fans with big promises to gain funding and then pissing it away with little to show for it is unacceptable, and is something that even industry pariahs such as EA and Activision are yet to be as guilty of (at least they are delivering something). Hopefully things change, but honestly guys, I wouldn't start holding your collective breaths that this product turns out how we really want anymore.

Big rumors have surfaced overnight regarding what we will see in the coming months at our local GW stores, and they are exciting to say the least. It looks like we may be seeing Horus Heresy plastics start to be released in GW stores in the near future! Here is the original link with the sources of the rumor for those interested - http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2015/02/mind-blown-two-best-40k-rumormongers-say.html . I for one am very curious to see how this is going to turn out. More thoughts and details below.

Initially, some of the rumors had said that we would be seeing a release of space marines in Mk9 power armor. I always thought that sounded utterly ridiculous as we had yet to ever even see the Mk8 become the standard with 40k marines today, so i never put much credibility to that. Well, apparently I was correct in that assumption, but instead we apparently get something so much better anyway; plastic kits of Heresy era armor!

Supposedly in May, we might see the first release, which is reportedly a box set that will be limited release, but followed by a standard release for the models contained inside. This definitely sounds like a reasonable option for GW, because if i recall correctly, their current deal with Warner Bros./Newline Films comes to an end in 2017 and they will be glad to be out of it from what I hear. Releasing Horus Heresy product gradually to replace the atrociously under-performing Hobbit miniatures so that they have a stock ready to replace the older game once pulled will allow them to seamlessly transition to selling a product that will move more units than the Hobbit stuff ever did. Forge World has done really well with their Horus Heresy game, and its interesting that GW is willing to tread into their territory on this as its not something they usually make a habit of. That said, its also not like GW to ignore a huge opportunity to make way more money, which explains why they might do it anyway.

For those who haven't yet played the 30k ruleset, its a lot of fun. I keep reading people on comments boards whining about it being only Marines vs Evil Marines and whatnot, but in actual fact, the rules feel much more diverse between each Legion due to their many doctrinal and tactical differences. They may look similar but they can end up playing quite different in games. It is likely that we will only see minor releases for this for a while though, as it would take GW quite a long time to convert some of the other kits to plastic, and I'm quite sure they won't be doing all of them, as that would definitely adversely affect Forge Worlds pocket too.

Either way, this will definitely be interesting to see how these releases look. On top of that their is a rumor of a standalone assassins game that will contain 4 brand new re-sculpted plastic kits for the iconic assassin models that have been around for a while now. This will definitely be a nice buy for those who want some updated models for these and for those who haven't yet bought them.

This is definitely something to watch for in the coming months. I for one am excited to see what these models and releases are going to look like :)

A new trailer for the upcoming Space Hulk: Deathwing game has been revealed today. Here's a link the the video on IGN. http://www.ign.com/videos/2015/02/13/space-hulk-deathwing-rise-of-the-terminators-trailer Its looking really good, and since this one will be released both on PC and next-gen games consoles, this is a sure buy for me :). The graphics look awesome. Curious about how the game itself will play but I am pretty sure i remember reading that this is going to be a shooter, so it could be a really interesting co-op game. :)Hazon Dak'irhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11243676557852962498noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1658743346697059386.post-16694038594096742682015-02-13T10:12:00.000-08:002015-02-13T10:12:02.657-08:00The Crimson Fist released!

Some news fresh from Forge World today. The latest in the character series for the Horus Heresy has been released. Alexis Polux of the Imperial Fists. Here's a link to more pictures of him - .http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/ALEXIS_POLUX_405TH_CAPTAIN_OF_THE_IMPERIAL_FISTS.html Its a really nice model, equipped with his iconic Power fist and a really large, Aquila-styled Storm shield. It'll be interesting to see what comes next from Forge World. I have yet to see a bad character model so far (in my opinion anyways). :) A little more info on this Imperial Fists character follows below....
Via Forge World:
"Captain of the 405th Company of the Imperial Fists Legion, Alexis Polux
'The Crimson Fist' was a warrior of unique promise both elevated to
greatness and condemned to bear great sorrow by the events of the Horus
Heresy. A tactical genius with a talent for void warfare, he was the
protégé of the Legion's greatest fleet masters, although before the
dark betrayal of the Warmaster yet to reach his full potential. Inwit
born, he was a physical giant even among his brothers of the Legion, and
of a character as if cast in stone, emotionless and unyielding, whose
reputation before the Battle of Phall rested as much on his strength in
the bloody melee of close quarters combat as in command."Hazon Dak'irhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11243676557852962498noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1658743346697059386.post-53493185723210092382015-02-11T11:14:00.002-08:002015-02-11T11:14:58.291-08:00Endtimes: Archaon Leaks

A lot of information is beginning to come out regarding the final volume of the Endtimes now. Stat lines for Archaon and several units have been revealed. Here's a link to check them out; http://imgur.com/a/nOyqS?

The new units look interesting, especially the new special character I noticed listed there, I think he could be a really useful character to field, and could be pretty annoying to your enemy. I'm also still really hoping that there might be a Chaos Dragon model coming, but I'm beginning to think that rumor is probably not true. I guess we will find out in the coming weeks or days. :)

More news breaking today. The mystery of the Spartan Games logo change has been revealed! While I'm sure many may not be surprised, its still an exciting prospect. In the not too distant future we will finally be seeing a Halo Universe miniatures game. One game will be a space-based ship game, while the other will be a ground based game. Exciting times are ahead. More info below.

Here's a look at the first wave of UNSC ships incoming. Fans will clearly recognize each of these designs, with the Infinity being the Epoch Class, the Pillar of Autumn being the Marathon Class, and the In Amber Clad being the Paris class respectively. I'm sure we will probably see more variations down the line, but this is a solid base to build from. With Firestorm Armada under their belts, be sure that Spartan Games will do a good job of designing rules for this game. Next up we have the Covenant Vessels.

So as we see with the UNSC, the ship classes are pretty recognizable here from the existing Halo games. That's all I can find so far on this newly announced game, but rest assured as soon as i see more, i will be sure to share it. I have been a pretty big Halo fan over the years and always wondered why there hadn't been a miniatures game for this made much sooner. Super excited to see what the units for the ground game will look like when we finally get a look at them. :) What do you think? Does a Halo minis game interest you?

So there was some pretty exciting news that broke over the weekend if you didn't hear about it yet. End Times: Archaon is rumored to be headed our way in March, with a focus on Khorne for this release. With that, we will see our first plastic greater daemon model; the Bloodthirster. Following the release of this, there are a few other Khorne specific units coming too. More info below.

Here is the most common picture of the Bloodthirster that's making the rounds. Apparently this kit will make 1 of 3 different types of Daemon, with one being named, and the other two apparent variations of Bloodthirster. It is said to stand about the same height or possibly a little taller than Nagash. It will definitely be interesting to see what the stat-lines for this will be.

The other interesting piece of news to come with this are the models pictured above with the Bloodthirster in the background. Wrathmongers and Skullreavers are said to be the names of the 2 new types of models shown here. I'm going to assume they will at least be partly Daemon by the looks of things. Their red skin seems to be almost like part bloodletters but within the bodies of Chaos Warriors and their armor. Cool looking unit. it will be interesting to see how these will work. The last rumor is that Archaon will be appearing with a new model too, apparently riding a chaos dragon - possibly even Galrauch. Endtimes: Archaon is definitely starting to sound like a very interesting book.

So this weekend is the Horus Heresy weekender, and we are already seeing many images from it floating around the internet. The one that really caught my eye was the first prototype model for the Stormbird (shown above). Gotta say, while its not what I had imagined it would look like, it is a pretty solid looking ship. Some of the other pictures available even show it being able to fit a Rhino inside its rear hatch. While there are more than a few places to look at pictures, the most comprehensive place i found so far, with the least blurry images is over at Recalcitrant Daze blog. Link is here for anyone interested: http://recalcitrantdaze.blogspot.com/2015/02/heresy-weekender-2015-new-stuff.html

Among these are some really neat new tanks, and our first look at an Alpha Legion character. :) I won't go into detail on all these but go and look at the images yourself, you owe it to yourself if you like really cool models. Have a great weekend :)

Having recently been getting into the X-Wing Miniatures game, I found myself interested in the upcoming Star Wars: Armada game. In the limited time i have had with X-Wing, I really enjoyed the variety and the balance of the game. When i heard of Armada allowing players to take control of the more colossal ships such as the Star Destroyers from the movies, and small squadrons of TIE fighters as backup, my interest was definitely piqued. I then recalled an article I had read recently over on Faeit 212 that Natfka had posted, and it got me thinking. If FFG now owns specialist games license, will we see some form of Battlefleet Gothis come into existence again after the successes of X-Wing. The answer may well lay in the interest generated by Armada when it launches later this Spring. For those interested in the original article I am referring to, here's a link to it. http://natfka.blogspot.nl/2014/11/fantasy-flight-games-getting-allocated.html
More info on this prospect below...

So as many may know, later in the Spring of 2015, the first Wave of Star Wars: Armada ships will be released. Differing in play mechanics to its smaller scale predecessor - X-Wing - Armada will feature much larger classes of ships, such as corvettes and destroyers, and who knows what else. What we do know is this: It involves larger scale ships, but still involves fighter and bomber squadrons in some way. While we are unsure of how exactly this works as of now, we can assume it will be an interesting balance of use between the different units. Battlefleet Gothic had a very similar balance when it was around. Negligent fleet commanders would often find themselves on the wrong side of an ordnance spread of torpedoes, or a wing of bombers if they declined to think about the threat they posed. It would be safe to assume that in a similar way, smaller ships will function in a somewhat similar role here with Armada. This leads me to the next point though. If Armada builds on the success of X-Wing and the mechanics can be translated fairly easily with some small changes, how likely before we see a Battlefleet Gothic game much like this?

For those who want to jump and say "but cloning a game sucks i don't want that it won't be good, I am not saying it SHOULD be done that way, but nevertheless, it is a distinct possibility it will be so. Ever hear of Wings of War? Many may answer no. But this was the predecessor in many ways to the very successful game that would be X-Wing. Porting over rules, while changing a few things here and there may not appeal to many, but it is a much easier and cost effective way for a company to bring a new product to a different customer base in their market. Its entirely possible this could occur with Battlefleet Gothic. If the game works well and is a tried and tested system already proven to be popular then is this such a bad thing in the end? I dont't know about you, but personally i would rather that some form of Battlefleet Gothic existed in some way than not at all. Plus having pre-painted ships would be nice for some, and lets be honest, they are very easy to change for a Games Workshop hobbyist if the need arises. (I have seen many neat mods to X-Wing mini paint-schemes that were really simple)
While it may be a slight point of contention for some, Battlefleet Gothic redone by FFG in such a way may be a little more expensive than the current Star Wars games they offer due to the slightly larger size that many "basic" ships would still require, meaning that the extra cost of molds and materials would need to be offset a bit. However, the positives to this are that there is a huge option of races/factions to release for such a game, and allows even more builds and diversity than even Star Wars can offer faction wise. One thing is certain; for any of this to potentially happen, it will probably have a lot to do with how good or bad Star Wars Armada performs on release, as functionally speaking, we can probably expect the games to appeal at least to similar crowds in the market. Here's to hoping it does well, as I would really like to see something like this happen one day. So this is just the second time I have done a book review for the blog, but I feel I will do this more often, as I have, and continue to read many 40k novels, and have read all the Heresy books up to the newest one, including most of the Black Library exclusives which I have really enjoyed too. :) If you like the Heresy Series and want to read this for yourself, then please do not view and read this article as plot spoilers WILL be contained. If however you like the stories, but simply don't have the time to read, then i hope this article will prove useful. :) I apologize in advance for the length of this review, but this is the longest book of the Horus Heresy, and a lot of things happen, so it needed more. Review follows below.

Cover Art: 9/10
I like the cover art for this book quite a lot as I felt it does a really good job of showing us the ferocity of Horus in battle, and also the relentless attack strategies of the Sons of Horus. This picture may be of the Battle of Dwell before the world was conquered, which is mentioned at the beginning of this book, or it could be from the apocalyptic scale battle between the Grand Army of Molech and Horus' traitor army that takes place in the late portion of the book. Either way its a really intense picture, with a lot of things going on (Theres even what looks like the prow of a statship looming above in the background).

Characters: 10/10
This book is absolutely full of some iconic characters from the Heresy, featuring the newly reformed Mournival with its previously removed members now replaced by Grael Noctua and Falkus Kibre, recommended by Horus Aximand and Abbadon respectively. The book also features 5 Primarchs, with Mortarion and Horus taking most of the focus in this regard, although Fulgrim does also have an appearance, as do Leman Russ and Rogal Dorn, and boy do they do some pretty epic stuff through the course of this book, specifically Mortarion and Horus. There are many others who are also present, but its a bit too many to list as its most of 2 Legions worth of marines.

Shifting focus more from the traitor side of things, there is also a really big reveal here for those who haven't had a chance to listen to any of the Heresy audio books (myself included: i just prefer reading to listening), as the Knights Errant make an appearance, and by doing so, some characters which many readers grew attached to early in the Horus Heresy are revealed to still be around. I speak mainly of course of Garviel Loken, whom I'd assume many of us believed dead. Turns out he was recovered from the ruins of Istvaan III and recruited into the Knights Errant by Malcador the Sigillite. It was really rewarding after so long to have him brought back, along with Iacton Qruze, and Severian, from the Outcast Dead novel. Definitely a bit of an all-star lineup in this book and i really enjoyed reading their different parts of the story and seeing it come together.

There is yet another Perpetual who makes an appearance here also, but its not one of the established ones we have read about so far. Her role is a bit unknown for quite a while in the story, but when it becomes clear, you really get an understanding of just how important these mysterious individuals actually are.

Graham McNeill definitely did a good job balancing all of these characters and making sure they all had their moments and had things to do, and when there is inevitably a few deaths, one does feel pretty gutted that they are gone.

Story: 10/10
The story of Vengeful spirit starts of with Horus on the planet Dwell, the planets loyalist forces having already been swept aside, and a strange collective of important Imperial citizens who have died but been preserved in machinery is discovered still intact after the war. Horus uses his Primarch's psychic gifts to rip information from the collective memories and minds of the dead entombed there, and by doing so, discovers information that will change the galaxy forever. The world of Molech holds a secret of which the very foundation of the Empire of Mankind was built upon; a secret of the Emperor himself. Before Horus leaves for Molech he has a meeting with Mortarion and Fulgrim, at which point it becomes apparent that not all the loyalist forces were so easily destroyed. A kill team of 3 Iron Hands Fire Raptor gunships surround the building on which they are meeting and all but level the entire place, incapacitating Fulgrim and Mortarion, and doing some serious damage to Horus himself, but not quite enough, as Horus proceeds to take all of them out single-handed.

While Horus and his forces are traveling to Molech, the story switches focuses to what is going on on Terra; Russ has managed to limp his wounded fleet back to the Imperial Homeworld after they were badly mauled by the Alpha Legion, and he now wants to personally launch a strike against Horus and his personal flagship: The Vengeful Spirit. The Knights Errant are tasked by the Sigillite to infiltrate the ship and find weak points and targets aboard the vessel, while plotting the best route for Leman Russ to take through it to get to Horus. Its at this point that we finally discover Loken is still alive, as it is he whom the Sigillite tasks with leading this mission as he, being a former Legionary of The Sons of Horus has the most experience and knowledge of the vessel. During this time is when Iacton Qruze is also reintroduced, along with a few others who are now members of the Knights Errant after their actions in previous events, including Sevatar, who initially declines to join the mission, viewing it as a pointless suicide. Also introduced is a stealth ship, the Tarnhelm, which is the way the Knights get about undiscovered, and also their means of getting near the Vengeful Spirit.

The forces tasked with the defense of Molech are no small army. It is apparent that the Emperor sees this world as vital; the planet defended by multiple orbital stations and fleets, Titan Legion forces, Knight Titan households, and millions of Imperial Army soldiers, along with contingents of Loyalist Legion forces (Ultramarines and Blood Angels respectively.) Knowing how potent the orbital batteries can be, Horus utilizes a different strategy to confront the defense fleet, employing the use of Tomb Ships to get close to the batteries and once close enough, launch a boarding action to take over the platforms, turning them on the Imperial ships nearby. The plan works very well, and all but a handful of the hundreds of vessels are utterly destroyed, leaving Molech open to ground invasion.

Once the ground invasion begins, things move at a pretty rapid pace. Horus' ground forces smash through the first lines of resistance before coming to a pivotal battle to decide the fate of Molech once and for all. During this battle, both sides suffer horrific losses, but it finally seems that the Loyalists will win as the heavy guns of Titans begin to take their toll on the Traitor forces. In a stunning turn of evens though, House Devine of the Knight Titans fall to chaos and bring down the vast Emperor class Titan laying waste to the traitors by hitting its reactor chamber with multiple focused hits from their heat cannons. The Titan detonates several minutes later, leaving the Grand Army of Molech in ruins. Molech had fallen to Chaos.

In the mad retreat of the few dwindling survivors of the battle for Molech, one of the mysterious perpetuals tries to close a portal that the Emperor himself used many hundreds of years in the past for some mysterious purpose. Right as she is closing the portal, Horus and his forces arrive stopping her just before she can make the final ward to seal the gate permanently. Horus activates the gate using the blood of the perpetual, and the portal opens, revealing its true nature; it is a gate to the Realms of the Chaos Gods. Horus enters for what seems like only a moment to his men, but returns physically aged, revealing that he know has the power he needs to bring down the Emperor. He has brought the Chaos Realms in line by wages a war across their domains inside the warp, promising to help them gain vengeance on the Emperor for his trickery in the past.

As this happens the Knights Errant have been slinking around on the Warmasters flagship, marking positions for the Space Wolves attack that is to follow. however, they are soon captured and brought before the warmaster, where many are then killed in a fight aboard the bridge, which leaves Iacton Qruze finally dead at the hands of Horus himself, and with Loken floating lifelessly in space after causing a decompression aboard the bridge in a final act of vengeance.

Conclusion
What a book! The story in this one was phenomenal, and the mysteries revealed about the Emperor are pretty monumental. I purposely didn't go into too much detail on the finer points of the battles as those are best left for you to read, but definitely, if you are a fan of the Horus Heresy series, you owe it to yourself to read this story. It is probably the best one since the first 3 stories in my opinion.
Sevatar, The Prince of Crows, shown above, is but one of the awesome things lately to come from the amazing designers at Forge World. Below is some pictures of some other really exciting stuff to come. Stormhammer superheavy tank anyone? :)

The Stormhammer Super-heavy tank is finally coming soon. I have been waiting to see what this tank would look like when it finally showed up from Forge World. I first read about this thing in the Horus Heresy novel; Vengeful Spirit and thought it sounded really awesome. Turns out it is just as cool as i imagined. Literally bristling with guns, this behemoth can lay down some serious firepower, both against infantry and armor units alike. At first glance it appears to be armed with 6 multilaser sponsons, a hull mounted lascannon, Battle Cannon turret with another coaxial mounted multilaser, and finally the twin linked main gun, which appears to be another battle cannon, but a Ryza pattern version, although there is a chance this could be a different weapon of some sort. Either way it looks extremely intimidating.

Next up that I really liked the look of is the Mhara Gal Dreadnought. Clearly Word Bearer in origin, this thing is a perfect embodiment of what makes that Legion so wicked. Completely twisted by the powers of the warp beyond recognition, this was once a noble hero of the Space Marines, now lost to the ferocious Daemon possessing the machine and soul within, this looks to be a fearsome enemy on the tabletop. With a little conversion this can probably be made to fit into several of the other legion armies of 40k armies of Chaos players too. definitely worth a look for those who want a really scarey looking veteran dreadnought.

Lat but not least on the list of stuff i liked from the email is Captain Alexis Polux of the Imperial Fists. I was beginning to think we may not end up seeing him as a model due to some of the things in the novels that i have read, but I'm glad that he has been done. Really nice model, and while being slightly less "ornate" compared to some of the other characters we see from the Horus Heresy team of Forgeworld, he nonetheless fits very well the style of the Imperial Fists. For anyone interested there is also a very nice command set - released at the same time as Sevatar on Forgeworlds site - for Imperial Fists. While this set is mainly for 30k games it quite easily works for 40k armies too and would look perfect in any Imperial Fists - or successors - army. What do you think? Thought for my first real post back I would do a quick one on a small project I did for a friend who is starting an Imperial Fists Siege Assault Vanguard army. He wanted me to build a Captain that fit the army ascetically, but that would also offer him some flexibility for list building while remaining WYSIWYG for games. After a little while of contemplating some options i came up with this guy. I just built him, all the painting on him has been done by Preston himself, and the end result fits the part pretty well i think :) Further pics and breakdown follows....

This picture brings out the colors a lot better. (as you can see from the backgrounds, Preston works on a lot of things) I decided on giving the Captain a dynamic pose, as if he is charging forward, shield up and with sword pointed in challenge, ready to duel an opponent or simply leading his squad in an assault of a fortification. To further go with the idea of being a Siege Master, i went with the simple, yet rare Errant pattern armor, as it offers the most protection in combat situations, which seemed ideal for this sort of specialization. I went for a simple, yet useful loadout on the model. He is carrying the storm shield and power sword, but still carries a holstered pistol so as not to be completely stuck in a melee role if necessary, along with grenades.

This angle reveals a bit of the pistol holster along with the cloak and backpack a bit. The shoulder pad purity seal and Crux Terminatus are also shown here. I think the pink and purple of the cloak adds a bit more variety in term of color for the model too. Red cloaks are a dime a dozen on Captains these days, so it's nice to see a painter change it up a bit.

Another angle, this one shows the angle of the Captains charge forward a bit more, giving a better impression of his headlong plunge into battle. The other thing you can see in this picture and others is that Preston also went for a bit more of a battle damaged "gritty" vibe with the Captain, giving more of a sense of actual battlefield use to his models - scratches, paint chipping, mud and grime, and scorching are present on many of the models that accompany the Captain to the tabletop - and really gives a good sense of a battle-tested army.

This last shot shows off a bit more of the shield details and again some of the neat weathering and damage effects that Preston used on the models. More to come in future from Preston and his collection, but for now, I thought this little collaboration would be a cool project to share.Hazon Dak'irhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11243676557852962498noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1658743346697059386.post-32004923472399711892015-02-04T17:08:00.001-08:002015-02-04T17:08:29.656-08:00Back with a Vengeance

Its been quite some time since I was last able to post here. Glad to be back. Alot has happened in that time, and I'm happy to say that I have much more time to post things again :) I have missed it quite a bit and I'm sorry for being away for so long. I have been working on a lot of other hobby projects though during the time I've been away, many of which i will share with you soon! I will try to keep up with the torrents of rumors that seem to be flying around these days, but it can be hard to keep on top of them all right now. In the meantime, here is a list of things that are coming soon to the blog. Hoping to get some input on them once they are here. :)
Today saw the release of two new Knight-Titan based kits from Forge World. Armed with a large energized power blade, and what looks to be a twin linked avenger bolt cannon type of weapon, the Knight-Castigator looks sure to make the vast hordes arrayed against the Imperium little more than splattered chunks across the battlefield. For more pictures of this awesome model, check out this link; http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/CERASTUS_KNIGHT_CASTIGATOR.html. Some other pictures of the Knight-Castigator. As you can see this model still stands taller than its standard Imperial Knight brother, more comparative in height to the Knight-Lancer.
Closer look at the front of the Castigator. That cannon looks really mean.
I'm going to assume that by the massive size of the Ammo hopper attached to this Knight, that you will probably be rolling a good amount of dice when you fire the cannon on this thing.

The other release from FW today is the House Terryn upgrade pack for the Games Workshop Imperial Knight kit. This is a nice way to ad stunning detail to your Knight Titan without having to wrestle with some awkward transfer sheets to do it. These are really nicely sculpted and really add that extra bit of detail to the model really well.
A bit of late news in addition to this weeks releases, are the releases of two new Contemptor Dreadnoughts. One for the Night Lords, and one for the Iron Warriors. Both are pretty nice looking sculpts. :)
By now, most of you have likely heard of the PvP centric 40k MMO that is currently in development at Behavior interactive, and if not, you have now. This is some basic news and a rundown of current information that has been conveyed to the community so far. (Its not a fully comprehensive list, but these are some of the things that caught my attention and that make me excited for this game to be released.) Check out their link here if you haven't yet and sign up for the Arkhona Vanguard to gain early access to the first modules of the game before launch and be a Founder. [If you do sign up, please use my reference code - EC-YKCUK00EJ6B15 - if possible as it helps me gain a better reputation on the community and rank up my characters a bit :)] The first module of the game for Founders access is scheduled to be released in January, although the Dev team have also said that they are working to have it ready for us much earlier than that. Here is a link to the games website - https://www.eternalcrusade.com/. Info on the game follows below.

So here is a rundown of some of the cool news and features that have been confirmed for the game. There is a ton of stuff that has been announced and even if you decide not to buy a founders pack on their website, at least sign up on the forums (completely free) and get access to the community and news that you may have missed elsewhere (Dev Team staff are also very active and friendly here).

Races Confirmed for launch:
Eldar (Playable)
Chaos Space Marines (Playable)
Orks (Free for All Players)
Space Marines (Playable)
Tyranids (NPC faction)

Store Items:
Relic/Heresy Weapons - rare and unique gear; very limited(NOT more powerful than any stuff found in game already that is free)
Founders Items - unique vehicles and gear that are only available to founder level players (NOT more powerful than things found in the game for free)
Rogue Trader Items - gear, skins and armor that are available to all players and are mostly to make players cooler looking than others. (No weapons or gear found here is better than already contained in the game)

Classes:
Classes vary between the factions, but expect to see a basic default set of the following, with multiple sub-classes that diverge the player skills/abilities more. Classes below based off Space Marine/Chaos Marine factions shown to date, but expect to see at least similar classes/roles for the other factions at launch.
Tactical - Basic all purpose soldier. carries relatively light weapons but is fairly flexible in combat roles. Can hold their own in a both ranged and melee combat fairly effectively.
Devastator - Heavy Weapons specialist. less mobile than other classes, but packs a heavy punch. expect heavy weapons ranging from Heavy Machine guns to Anti Tank missiles/lasers, etc. Not very strong against melee attackers.
Assault - Highly mobile melee specialist. easily the more maneuverable class, with a strong melee edge, while having inferior firepower to the other classes, they are currently very powerful but are being rebalanced by the Dev Team.
Hero - Special abilities, wide variety of configurations of weapons, etc. Not yet shown in demo streams, these classes can be expected to be powerful, but also rather specific in combat/ support roles on the battlefield. Will stand out on the field when next to other players due to the unique appearances they have.

Vehicles:
Tanks, troop transports, and fast vehicles (bikes/jetbikes) are confirmed. Currently player pilot-able flyers have not been confirmed. They may make the game at some point, but likely not until after launch. So far only Rhinos and Predators have been shown, but expect to see Land Raiders and more as Development ramps up.

Player models:
Not all have really been shown yet, mostly basic views, but the Orks, eldar and Tyranid models shown all looked good. Character models are also being given full motion captured animations for their actions in the game. Some of this has been shown in the latest live stream video. Community feedback led to a fully updated form of the Space Marine
(looks much better now) to be added to the current build of the game.

Game Features:
Base Capture - player factions fight for control of various outposts across continents of the planet. More than one point has to be captured and held simultaneously for a period of time before the base switches hands to the attacking faction.
Supply Resources - supplies matter in the PvP game of Eternal Crusade. some bases will be very hard to take as long as they are getting constant supplies. Taking these out before the main assault will help ensure that the attacks are more likely to succeed.
Resource Points - Each player gains resource points to spend on tanks, transport, etc during their time in the game. Additionally faction/guild commanders will also have additional points to assign to certain areas of the battle to help their factions with attacking or defending their territories.
PvE content - confirmed, but this is a small part of the game. Certain points of interest will contain NPC enemies with secrets and/or bosses to fight inside them. Tyranids form the bulk of the PvE content in the game.
Environmental Destructibility - confirmed, however only certain parts will be destructible due to the constraints of making such a huge game with so many additional core features to implement.
Loot - confirmed, although how this is to work remains to be seen or stated.
Day/Night system - Confirmed
Dynamic Weather - They are working to get this into the game. currently they are experimenting with different programs to see how much this will affect the games performance.
Damage Points - Each vehicle and player has multiple hit boxes on them, and different points cause different levels of damage. (for example headshots do far more damage than leg hits, etc)
Guilds - confirmed. These will be limited to 100 players per guild from what i remember hearing, although this may change. The Devs will also be updating the site to support the community creating a mini web page on the EC website for players to join or look at the various Guilds in the game. Player Created Guild Logos/banners are also in. (they will feature tools for this on the redesigned site)
Battle Damage - confirmed, but currently still being implemented and has not yet been shown.
Multiple Vehicle Firepoints - confirmed. In current footage of the game that's been shown, the Predator tank has 4 different points for players to sit in. Depending on where a player is in the tank, they control a different gun, or steer the tank around the battlefield. Fully crewed tanks are far more effective than one with only one occupant.
Player Revival - players when wounded, are first left in a "downed state" rather than flatout dead. friendly players have the ability to help them back up, while enemies have the ability to perform executions, however, these leave them exposed to attack while performing the kill. Downed players can also just be shot more to finish them off.
Outpost/Territorial Abilities - confirmed. Holding certain outposts will allow a faction a special ability, used/called in by faction commanders when available. Examples given were Void Shield defense systems, and Macro Cannon bombardment.

This is but a brief list of things coming in the game, but for more information and a good look at the current build of the game, feel free to check out the Eternal Crusade Twitch feed here - http://www.twitch.tv/40kcrusade. These live streams are held every Friday at 1:30pm Eastern Time and typically have live Q and A for the community and also often a new demo of the game, showcasing some PvP play and going over some new features, etc. Please also bear in mind before judging the game on graphical quality, that this is not even an alpha build of the game, this is just a very early look at it, and it continues to look better with each video. They are fun to watch and they do a very good job of trying to answer the biggest questions the player community has. I would definitely recommend watching these if you are unsure about putting any money into the game so far from release. That's all for now though, I hope this has got you as excited for the game as i currently am. :)
Hey guys, I know I am a bit late to the party with this bit of news, but I couldn't very well call myself a huge Salamanders fan if I didn't at least dedicate an article and some time to talking about how awesome this model release from Forge World is. Easily my most anticipated Primarch release for obvious reasons, I am super excited to finally be able to get him for my army. :) Links to more pics and info below.

So this picture pretty much says it all for me. They really did a good job of evoking the strength and power of Vulkan in the way they posed his model; legs braced, his hammer held aloft ready to smite his foes. There is a lot of details to his armor and this will no doubt take me a long time to paint, but it should look really nice by the end if I do it any justice at all.

Another view more from the rear shows Vulkans armor power plant, complete with Fuel cells for his gauntlet mounted flame weapon. Also gives a decent view of the Drakescale cloak and the basing details of the dead Death Guard Legionary at Vulkan's feet. Additionally, that Drake skull looks amazing on his shoulder armor.

Another view of the Drakescale cloak, with a nice shot of the hammer and of the Drake skull again. I seriously cannot wait to get this model. As with any big fan of the original legions, be it 40k player or 30k players, these Primarch releases really are a wonderful addition to your collection, whether you like the Horus Heresy or not. They seem to give more of a sense of completeness to ones army by finally being able to add their Lord Commanders to them. I will definitely be putting this guy center display in my display case once i finally get him and paint him, along with his bodyguard complement of Firedrake Terminators :)

Greeting everyone. Its been a bit longer than i would have liked since my last post, but I was on vacation for 2 weeks and didn't have access to reliable internet. It was a nice time away but its also nice to be back :) So main piece of news today is the reveal via the web, of the new Nagash model, and boy does he look scarey (as he rightly should). Links and more news below :)

I must confess, i haven't read much Fantasy novels or lore at all, but I do know that Nagash is a huge threat to pretty much the entire world in warhammer Fantasy, so it will be interesting to see how bringing him back will affect the lore and the game overall. Here is a link to a picture of the Lord of the Undead - http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2014/08/breaking-nagash-spotted.html.

Among other news, which is mostly already known, Grey Knights will be next for release. Doesn't look like they are seeing any new kits, just a few reboxings. While some are unhappy that apparently the inquisition and assassins are being taken out of the book, I actually don't mind too much, as the ability for any Imperial army to take assassins is a nice option, and is actually how it used to be anyway back in 3rd Edition for those who remember. Here's the brief description of the Gorgons directly from Forge World:
"One of a number of Tactical Dreadnought Armour sub-classes found within
the ranks of the Iron Hands Legion, the Gorgon pattern was one of a
number of on-going attempts by Ferrus Manus and his cadre of
Iron-Fathers to refine and augment the various patterns of Terminator
armour employed by the Legiones Astartes forces.

One of the most extreme technological examples of the Iron Hands’
innovation to improve on these designs was the hazardous but powerful
‘Gorgon’ prototype, which required bonding to its wearer, and which
Ferrus Manus would not live long enough to refine to its full potential."

A really impressive looking unit, the Gorgons have some really nice features, from the legion iconography built onto their Shoulder pads, to the large power axes they wield. This squad is definitely something that would be impressive to see on the table.

The armor plates also have some nice touches, such as the small embellishments on the leg armor and the bionic augments on their helmets.
The sergeant also comes with a nice hammer and has a servo skull hovering beside him. I think one of the most interesting things on this unit is perhaps the paint color choice. It is pretty unique and i like it. Parts of the armor plates are black, while others definitely have a more green hue to them. Definitely a unique unit to add to the Iron Hands army for 30k but i can definitely see strong potential for this as a 40k unit in a lot of peoples Iron hands armies.

On a small side note, also released is an Emperors Children transfer sheet. :)
The Firedakes of the Salamanders Legion have finally arrived on Forge World's website for pre-order. I remember seeing these as sneak peek WIP models from some pictures of the older Forge World Gamesday displays that were recently covered by most other sites. The Firedrakes are a powerful and implacable foe to face on the battlefield, and they definitely nailed that feeling in the looks of these models. Here's a link for more info on this awesome unit: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/SALAMANDERS_LEGION_FIREDRAKES.html.

The first thing that really stands out to me with these models is the Storm Shields that the Firedrakes squad carry. These things are huge and encrusted with drakescales and Legion icons and really give the unit a strong sense of being impervious to all but the heaviest attacks available to their enemies. The hammers also give them that feeling of power and strength that one would expect of their Primarchs personal guard.

The other thing that is a bit different on these Terminators is the helmets. They look to be more of a Legion specific variant, but are pretty interesting looking. Having a somewhat ridged appearance across the top they look a bit more reptilian in overall design. The main armor plates also have much detail, such as the golden flames and the drakehead mounted on the torso, which really finish off the Firedrake aesthetic well. (The picture below gives a much better look at these areas of detail)

So to summarize, Forge World has yet again brought us an outstanding set of models that would fit nicely in both a Horus Heresy army and a 40k current army. The amount of stuff coming out lately from these guys is really good. Be it the small upgrade packs, or the larger items such as the recent Legion Falchion superheavy, everything has been really good and I can't wait to get a set of these Firedrakes along with Vulkan - who I'm sure will probably be released very soon too - so that i can finally add these Iconic units to my Salamanders collection :)

Hey guys, I'm a little bit late to the party on this news as Natfka has already covered it in far greater detail, but just in case anyone has missed it, Behavior - the company currently developing the new 40k MMO: Eternal Crusade - have updated the website and are now offering founders pack programs. This stuff should not be thought of as crowd funding as the game is already taken care of, but is instead to cover extra cool bits of gear, along with some stuff like character name reservations and Guild reservations, not to forget early access to the first basic modules of the game. :) Here's a link to the game site - https://www.eternalcrusade.com/ More info below.
These are the packs currently available. Each offers alot of the basic access stuff, including name reservations, etc, while the Heresy Pack and Xenos pack basically provide a means of buying all of the limited edition weapons and then everything else available respectively. There are some things listed as still WIP but i doubt it will take much longer for those items to show up on the page finished, but you can get a good idea of how they will look by the pictures provided below.
This is just the Ork examples of what is available for each faction, but basically right now, each faction has access to purchase a vehicle, some cool custom appearances, and some wargear for their characters to use in the game. Behavior have also been very vocal in expressing the fact that this is NOT pay to win game at all, it is merely cool extras for people, or weapons that are more like modified versions of their stock counterparts found in the base game (not upgraded power, but rather different functions such as a burst fire bolter, rather than rapid fire one that does a set amount of damage per burst for example)

Last but not least, there are a few limited edition weapons that you can grab for your characters. These are going to be really rare, but are a really neat touch in my opinion to add some uniqueness for founders of the game to have. (really love that Umbra Ferrox pattern bolter for Chaos ;)) Again, it should be stressed that these have next to no inherent strength over their regular counterparts from what i have heard, but are merely slight variations and only perform slightly different in their fire modes, etc, than their less pretty counterparts. :)

Of the packs available I personally purchased the Captain pack, as i didn't feel that i would want all of the limited stuff, not every single customization option for every faction (Space Marine through and through for me :D) so I figured this pack gave me the best bang for my buck. I reserved 3 character names also; one a Space Wolf, one a Dark Angel, and one Black Legion Chaos Marine. I'm really excited to get into the early access whenever it shows up, and i really encourage all of you to give the site a look as I honestly think this game has a lot of potential to be a really stellar game for both 40k players and just video gamers in general. Here is a link to their site for those who are interested in this ambitious project in case anyone missed the one i posted earlier in the article :) - https://www.eternalcrusade.com/

The Behavior team are also extremely active on the forums, and reply often to the communities posts and questions and really are doing a lot to show fans that they have input so that this game will be as good as possible for everyone. The latest releases for the Horus Heresy are now up for Pre-orders. The Heresy Era Salamanders Legion Contemptor being one of them. This thing looks amazing and i can't wait to get one, specially with the weapons configuration in the picture. Just makes the model look very Nocturnean I think :) Along with the release of the Salamanders Contemptor Dreadnought, there are also Salamanders upgrade packs and some for a few other legions. For any interested here's a link to all of the new stuff http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff. The Salamanders head upgrade pack was also released for pre-orders today, along with a torso pack. Both look very fitting for the styling of Salamanders Space marines and are a nice extra touch for those who want more details on their 30k or 40k armies.
Additionallly, on the New Stuff Section of Forge World, there is also head upgrade packs for Imperial Fists, Word Bearers and also a veteran head upgrade pack for World Eaters (Extra pictures of these below). The Word Bearers also received a torso upgrade pack to go along with the heads. Really liking all these little extra options that Forge World have been giving players lately. Even without 40k, some of these really fit 40k armies pretty nicely, especially the Salamanders pieces.
World Eaters with the Veteran head upgrade pack. This to me gives a much more transitional look to them, making its very easy to believe these guys are all soon to be Khorne Berzerkers.
Word Bearers with the head and Torso upgrades. The pieces are nicely detailed, but hard to really appreciate from the pictures and paint that were used to highlight them in my opinion. But nevertheless, they look pretty cool :)
Last but not least, the Imperial Fists head upgrade pack. Rather sparse in details compared to the other Legion upgrades, but the Sergeant/Champion helmet is pretty nice. Hazon Dak'irhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11243676557852962498noreply@blogger.com0
